Union Courses provide the knowledge and skills that health professionals and programme managers need to run public health programmes that are clinically sound and administratively effective.
TB and lung health courses cover clinical and programmatic aspects of TB, multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB), TB comorbidities and child and adolescent TB. We provide health professionals working in resource-limited settings with the most recent scientific evidence, skills and competencies to enable them to deliver quality services and manage programmes.
International Courses
The Union uses its rich expertise to organise international fee-based courses that develop and strengthen clinical expertise, management skills and the ability to discover solutions through operational research and advocacy. These courses bring together a diverse group of participants from countries all around the world. This unique global mix of professionals enhances the learning experience, fostering cross-cultural collaboration and exchange of ideas. The diversity of participants not only deepens understanding of the global challenges but builds a community of practice that spans borders. Union Courses are held in Africa and Asia, in both English and French.
Principles of Tuberculosis Care and Prevention: Translating Knowledge to Action
This course will provide the knowledge and skills to senior programme staff and other health professionals to improve management of persons with TB and strengthen programmatic practices.
Dates: the online sessions will take place between mid-March to mid-April 2025 and the in-person session will take place from the 5-10 May 2025. The course will be offered in similar dates in 2026.
Location: Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
International Course on Tuberculosis in Children and Adolescents
This training is aimed at helping healthcare providers/participants apply learned concepts to improve the care of children and adolescents with presumptive and diagnosed TB in their work settings, especially at primary and secondary levels of health services.
Dates: the online sessions will take place between April and May 2025 (exact dates to be confirmed) and the in-person session will take place from the 1 to the 5 September 2025. This course will be offered in similar dates in 2026.
Location: a country in Sub Saharan Africa, to be determined.
International Course on the Clinical Management of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis
This is a five-day in-person course aiming to strengthen participants’ capacity in the clinical and programmatic management of drug-resistant tuberculosis. This course is being organized by The Union in partnership with Wan Fang Hospital, Taipei Medical University, Taiwan Anti-Tuberculosis Association with support from the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control.
Dates: October 2025 and October 2026.
Location: Taipei (Taiwan).
Cours International sur la Lutte Contre la Tuberculose
Le cours apportera aux participants les bases théoriques de la prise en charge des patients tuberculeux et aborde de façon pratique les stratégies de lutte et de gestion d’un programme y compris la prévention, la prise en charge et le traitement de la tuberculose, de la co-infection TB/VIH et de la tuberculose multi-résistante, en partenariat avec le Programme National de lutte contre la Tuberculose du Bénin et la Dynamique de la Réponse d'Afrique Francophone sur la Tuberculose (DRAF TB).
Ce cours sera offert en personne pendant deux semaines en juin 2025 à Cotonou, au Bénin. En 2026, le cours sera proposé à des dates similaires, bien que le format puisse changer pour inclure des sessions en ligne et réduire le temps requis en présentiel, qui auront également lieu à Cotonou, au Bénin.
Cours International sur la Tuberculose Multirésistante
Ce cours a pour objectif de transmettre aux participants les bases théoriques de la prise en charge des patients atteints de tuberculose multirésistante (TB MR) et aborde de façon pratique les stratégies de dépistage, de prévention et de traitement de la TB MR selon l’évidence la plus récente. Les dernières recommandations de l’OMS seront discutées ainsi que le choix des régimes de traitement et les conditions de leur application. Le cours introduira également quelques éléments concernant la prise en charge de la tuberculose ultrarésistante.
Ce cours en présentiel se déroulera du lundi 6 octobre au vendredi 10 octobre 2025 à Douala, au Cameroun. Ce cours sera offert à des dates similaires en 2026 à Douala au Cameroun.
Free online courses
The Union Courses Online platform has registered more than 37,000 visits in its first five years of existence. We currently offer the following online courses, free of charge:
- How to develop a research grant proposal (English)
- Interpretation of CXR in children with presumptive TB (English)
- Interpretation of CXR in adults (French)
- Prevent TB: management of TB infection (English, French and Spanish)
In 2025 and 2026, we plan to add an updated course on the Clinical and Programmatic Management of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis based on the latest WHO guidelines. There are also updates planned for our courses on Prevent TB: management of TB infection.
We are working with donors to translate the courses on interpretation of chest Xrays.
We also plan to publish new eLearning Programmes: on the topics of Children and Adolescent TB, and on tobacco cessation.
The Union online courses are available for free thanks to the generous support of donors who cover the costs of developing, publishing and maintaining the courses.
