The Global Fund has awarded Zimbabwe a new grant totalling US$ 502 million in healthcare funding to support HIV, TB and malaria programmes over the next three years.
The Global Fund has awarded Zimbabwe a new grant totalling US$ 502 million in healthcare funding to support HIV, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria programmes over the next three years. The grant will be implemented by the Ministry of Health and Child Care in collaboration with the National AIDS Council and several NGO partners including The Union.
In part, these funds will help support The Union’s ongoing work on a project implementing targeted screening for at-risk populations in Zimbabwe, as well as the technical assistance The Union Zimbabwe Office lends to the national TB response to ensure best practices are used and understood.
Zimbabwe has made considerable progress in scaling up interventions to respond to HIV, TB and malaria in recent years with more patients receiving antiretroviral therapy and an increase in TB treatment success nationwide. The funds will contribute to that effort.
Speaking at a ceremony to mark the award, Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa said, “With support from the grant we are signing today and support from other partners, the country’s priority is to be able to sustain the gains made so far. The country remains committed to the 90-90-90 targets for HIV, the malaria pre-elimination agenda and the stop TB targets of ending the TB epidemic by 2030.”
