The signing of Supreme Decree No. 39 by President Sebastián Piñeira and the Health Minister Jaime Mañalich will result in the development of new guidelines for this important tobacco control intervention. The execution of Law 19.419 means Chile comes closer to fulfilling the obligations of the WHO Framework Convention for Tobacco Control (FCTC), in particular article 11, which deals with packaging and labeling of tobacco products.

The new health warnings will be used for 12 months and can be renewed every year. This regulation applies to both national and imported products.

Currently, The Union provides technical and financial assistance to the Ministry of Health in Chile through the Bloomberg Initiative Smokefree Chile grant that aims to support the implementation of tobacco control initiatives.
