Modelling estimates suggest globally that by 2020, there were an estimated 155 million tuberculosis (TB) survivors. TB can continue to affect people long after treatment ends, with many (up to 50% of survivors in some studies/settings) experiencing ongoing health problems such as lung damage, disability, and other conditions that reduce quality of life and increase the risk of death. Yet, follow-up care is often limited.
Providing integrated, person-centred support including assessment, rehabilitation, and long-term monitoring can improve outcomes and help people live healthier lives after TB.
