The awards are given to individuals or organisations in each region for their commitment and contribution to activities that promote and enforce tobacco control.
Ms Godfrey is a lawyer and tobacco control advocate, who has contributed to discussions on the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) and is a civil society observer on the FCTC expert working group on the development of a cross-border advertising protocol. She has been a member of The Union's Department of Tobacco Control since 2007, and her legal expertise and knowledge have been invaluable, whether as a technical advisor for Bloomberg Initiative (BI) grants in the Europe Region or as a member of faculty on the technical trainings that The Union provides.
As a legal expert on tobacco control legislation, Ms Godfrey has also been called upon by the governments of many of the countries where The Union works to advise on their tobacco control legislation. This has included countries such as Lebanon and Vietnam, as well as Russia, where she has also been a technical advisor on BI grants.
Ms Godfrey also currently sits on the Strategic Advisory Committee for the Tobacco Control Department, which helps guide The Union's work on legislation and grants.
