The Union coordinated the process that saw eight countries submit bids to host the 2015 WCTOH. Abu Dhabi was unanimously chosen based on its facilities, the accessibility of the location and a generous package of support for delegates from low-income countries. The bid was the collaborative effort of the Emirates Cardiac Society, the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD), and the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority.

WCTOH is a triennial gathering of international advocacy, public policy and health research experts working together to achieve the goals of the world’s first public health treaty, the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO-FCTC). Previous WCTOH locations have been Helsinki, Finland (2003); Washington DC (2006); Mumbai, India (2009); and Singapore, which hosted the 15th summit last month.
The ILGTH appointed The Union as Permanent Secretariat to establish continuity, reliability and consistency in the organisation of the conference, as well as to ensure financial responsibility.
The Union’s Conference Unit will be responsible for all aspects of the conference project management, including the conference core identity, budget and finances, participant administration, abstract handling and registration.

Details about the 16th WCTOH in 2015 will be posted — as they become available — on the conference website: www.wctoh2015.org.
