“Eye-opening” new clinical TB-HIV course offered for the first time in Colombia

The intensive course, which was held in Bogotá from 11 to 13 April 2012, is specifically designed for clinicians who work in both TB and HIV care and are responsible for managing HIV-positive tuberculosis patients with serious complications. The curriculum presents the most up-to-date evidence base and experience in managing difficult cases gathered by The Union consultants.

The 31 participants in the course were physicians from the national TB and HIV control programmes and the main hospitals in Colombia. Their response to the course was so enthusiastic that it will be offered again in April 2013; the tentative location is Cali.

As one participant said, "This is a practical course on TB for the HIV clinicians and an eye-opening course on management of patients with HIV infection for TB clinicians".

In addition to the sessions in Colombia, this TB-HIV clinical course will be offered in the Dominican Republic and Ecuador this year. More info here.

The course is available in both three-day and five-day formats. Those interested in receiving a copy of the course outline and/or collaborating with The Union to organise a course in their country should write to tbhiv-courses@theunion.org for more information.
