Dr Dermot Maher has been appointed the new Editor-in-Chief of Public Health Action (PHA), The Union’s quarterly online open-access journal.
Dr Maher is also the coordinator of research capacity strengthening for Tropical Diseases Research, a Special Programme hosted by the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland. He brings direct field experience of a wide range of research and of health service implementation in developing countries; and he offers a broad strategic view of the health sector as a whole from his work with the WHO, the UK Department for International Development, the UK Medical Research Council and others.
He succeeds founding EIC, Prof Donald Enarson, who helped launch PHA in September 2011 as a vehicle for operational research and other areas of health and research not generally covered in its sister journal, the IJTLD.
Now in its fifth volume, PHA has found its niche focusing on operational research on all manner of health services from all around the world, providing information to help health services focus their practice more precisely and efficiently, and to refine approaches for those who are currently underserved.
“I am pleased to have the opportunity to build on the achievements of Don Enarson, the previous Editor,” says Dr Maher, “and I very much look forward to working to help ensure that PHA contributes to the greatest possible impact on health in developing countries”.
