Dear friends, staff and partners

The Union’s deepest sympathies go to the people of Mexico. Our thoughts are with the families and communities who have lost loved ones and who are now engaged in the difficult work of caring for the injured and rebuilding their beloved homes.

I would like to thank our remarkable partners in Mexico who, under these tragic circumstances and time of national mourning, continue to dedicate their efforts and offer support in the preparations for the 48th Union World Conference on Lung Health to be held in Guadalajara next month

The Union World Conference will go on as planned. I would like to reassure all those planning to attend that the earthquake in Mexico City did not impact Guadalajara or its surrounding area. The Guadalajara airport is open as usual, as is Mexico City airport, and all conference preparations are continuing to move forward.

For those wishing to provide support for earthquake relief, UNICEF representatives will be on site at the conference venue collecting donations that will go toward those affected by the earthquakes. I encourage all to join us in Guadalajara and contribute.

Warmest regards,

José Luis Castro
