The Union’s Executive Director, José Luis Castro, has been appointed to the Advisory Board of Dyson College of Arts & Sciences, a faculty of Pace University in New York City.
Advisory Board members are traditionally Dyson alumni and friends representing a cross-section of class years, industries and professional backgrounds.
José attended in 1988. His experiences at Pace started him along the path toward a stellar career in international development. Originally from Cuba, he and his family were part of the mass emigration to the USA in 1980. He was just 13 years old.
Through the Dyson Advisory Board, José has a mission to help the university provide opportunities to future generations, particularly students who overcame adversity and hardship in pursuit of that education. In his Dyson College biography, he describes his journey that led him to Dyson College and beyond, and offers this advice to students: “Prepare yourselves in communication and management. Get involved with local or international organisations to practice and learn in the field. And, as my grandfather told me, listen a lot, speak little, and work very hard.”
