On 27 June international experts, including Dr Ehsan Latif, Senior Advisor (NCDs), The Union, participated in a webinar focused on the progress so far in tackling NCDs and what further needs to be done.
At the 70th World Health Assembly held in May 2017 a firm commitment was made by governments to generate stronger action against the non-communicable diseases (NCDs) that account for 70 percent of premature deaths globally.
The newly elected World Health Organization (WHO) Director General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has stated that combatting NCDs is “one of my priorities for the WHO".
At the UN General Assembly in September 2015, the governments of over 190 nations also committed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. These goals include reducing premature deaths due to NCDs by one-third by 2030 (and a 25 percent reduction by 2025).
On Tuesday 27 June, at 1pm Geneva Time (12pm BST), international experts, including Dr Ehsan Latif, Senior Advisor (NCDs), International Union Against TB and Lung Disease (The Union), participated in a webinar presented by Citizen News Service (CNS) focusing on how we can achieve these targets and reflecting on the progress made so far.
