The TREAT TB project is launching a series of bi-monthly webinars which will focus on capacity building to conduct clinical trials in countries where multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is prevalent. TREAT TB has been implementing the STREAM clinical trial since 2012. This is the world's first large-scale, multi-country randomised clinical trial to test the efficacy and safety of shortened treatment regimens for MDR-TB.
Capacity building is a priority of all TREAT TB activities. With this aim in mind, and with the expertise gathered through the STREAM trial, the TREAT TB webinar series will discuss key aspects of clinical trial implementation in order to:
1. Strengthen capacity to conduct high quality clinical trials;
2. Identify and address common challenges of clinical trial implementation;
3. Promote collaboration through engagement of stakeholders;
4. Share information and lessons learned.
The webinars are open to clinicians, research scientists, global health experts, national TB programmes, community advocates, and other interested parties. The first in the series will focus on ‘Challenges with MDR-TB Clinical Trial Implementation – Sponsor and Site Perspectives’ and will take place on Tuesday, 10 July.
