The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union) is one of 33 leading global health organisations and members of National Parliaments that have united to call for G20 countries to prioritise health, fund innovation and establish the G20 as a permanent global health policy forum.
In an open letter (PDF 709 KB) to the G20 leaders meeting at a summit in Hamburg on 7-8 July, the coalition calls for the G20 to continue to focus on R&D to address critical global health challenges such as anti-microbial resistance (AMR) and urges leaders to ensure that tuberculosis (TB) is one of the key pathogens included in these efforts.
The letter calls for leaders to increase financial and political support for global health R&D, and to encourage private sector and philanthropic organisations to accelerate addressing AMR, pandemic preparedness and poverty related neglected diseases.
The Union is a partner in a related project to deliver collaborative development of better and more affordable TB treatment for all who need it. The ‘3P project’ uses an innovative approach to encourage investment in R&D for new affordable and accessible TB regimens.
