The Union launched the Chinese version of its guide for managing Diabetes Mellitus-Tuberculosis (DM-TB) at the annual conference of the TB Branch of the Chinese Medical Association (CMA).  The resource provides practical guidance for front line health workers responsible for the diagnosis, management and care of patients with both diseases. Published in collaboration with the World Diabetes Foundation, the guide is available for download in three languages on The Union website.

The annual conference of the TB Branch of the CMA was held in Suzhou, China, with more than 2,000 participants. The guide was launched during the plenary session of the conference,  chaired by the CMA’s President. Professor Lin Yan, Senior Advisor to The Union, said: “As a technical guide, this resource will have a long-standing influence. I hope it will become a useful tool for any health worker dealing with the two diseases.”

To support some of the financially poorer communities located in western China, a special delivery of the guidebooks was made to several western provinces, together with a selection of other recently published TB books.

Also at the event, Prof Lin received a prestigious award from the TB Branch of the CMA in recognition of his long-term dedication to TB control, and the impact of his research, technical assistance and other professional contributions.

Prof Lin works with The Union’s Department of TB and HIV, providing research and technical assistance on TB and other public health issues in China and around the world. He also features as this month’s Union Achiever.
