The Union is proud to announce that its International Management Development Programme (IMDP) is now a member of the Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA) , supporting its efforts to strengthen human resources for health (HRH) by delivering accredited management training to public health workers around the world.
The Union’s IMDP will support the GHWA’s vision and mission by training health professionals in specific management competencies that are critical to the success of national and international health programmes, including leadership, project management, strategic planning, budgeting and financial management, monitoring and evaluation, communication and networking.
An upcoming course, "Leading Management Teams" (December 2014, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) will help participants to enhance their performance by building leadership competencies and strengthening their mentoring and coaching skills. Participants will address specific managerial problems from their own countries and strategic issues affecting public health programmes globally.
The Union assists countries to develop their health systems through a combination of training, technical and managerial assistance, and strategic planning exercises. In addition to core public health management trainings, the IMDP experts work with organisations to evaluate existing practices in human resources development and prepare customised solutions, including training plans.
The IMDP has become a highly regarded resource for public health management training over its first decade. Since 2003, some 4,000 managers from 45 countries have benefited from the IMDP courses that develop leaders in public health by training them in essential skills necessary for managing effective health programmes.
