The Union Training and Education

Monthly ‘round-up’ news item – May 2024

The Union is running its successful Principles of Tuberculosis Care and Prevention: Translating Knowledge to Action course as a hybrid model for the first time.

The course, which launched in May, will enable participants to gain the knowledge and skills to improve the management of people with TB as well as strengthening programmatic practices.

Previously known as the International TB course, this course covers everything about the principles of TB care and prevention and applying them in programmatic practice.

It has been designed for staff of national TB programmes, TB coordinators and focal points at national and sub-national levels of health services, TB laboratory and radiology staff, monitoring and evaluation and health information officers, trainers of health professionals – and all those interested in TB care and prevention.

The course has been developed for low- and medium-income settings with high TB burden and it is also suitable for health professionals preparing themselves for overseas work.

What is the format of the course?

The current course is being delivered in a hybrid format and will consist of two parts:

i) an asynchronous component with pre-recorded video presentations and live sessions

ii) an in-person session with site visits and field practicals.

The online course content will be completed between May and July 2024 including weekly online live sessions – followed by the six-day, in-person training taking place from 16-21 September 2024 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

This session consolidates the knowledge gained from the online course and includes practical training and field practical to local health facilities.

Relevance of this course
