The Union calls for policies and actions that contribute to improved lung health globally. We promote the importance of poverty reduction and address the social determinants of health to improve health outcomes worldwide.

IJTLD CRD
Launching in 2026, IJTLD CRC is The Union's new Open Access journal for the latest research on chronic respiratory diseases.
We welcome submissions on the development of diagnostics and treatments for the care, management and rehabilitation of patients with respiratory disease.
The Global Asthma Network
In collaboration with the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood, The Union founded the Global Asthma Network (GAN) which published The Global Asthma Report 2018, an 88 page cutting edge State-of-the-Art report, with contributions from 53 experts around the globe.

Parenteral artesunate compliance and hospital outcomes in children under-five with suspected severe malaria in Sierra Leone
In this article, part of the TB, HIV and Malaria Series to be published in the Q2 issue of PHA, the authors assess adherence to national severe malaria management guidelines in children under five in Sierra Leone and its association with hospital outcomes, highlighting suboptimal artesunate dosing and related adverse outcomes.
Mapping Malaria Hotspots through Spatial and Spatio-Temporal Analysis in Sierra Leone, 2021-2024
In this article part of the TB, HIV and Malaria Series to be published in the Q2 issue of PHA, the authors analyse the spatial and temporal distribution of malaria in Sierra Leone, identifying persistent hotspots and no significant association with rainfall. The findings highlight the need for targeted, subnational interventions to address persistent hotspots.
Compliance with intermittent preventive malaria treatment in pregnancy at a tertiary hospital in Sierra Leone
In this article, part of the TB, HIV and Malaria Series to be published in the Q2 issue of PHA, the authors examine uptake of intermittent preventive treatment in pregnancy in Sierra Leone, showing low compliance with the recommended minimum of three doses, largely associated with insufficient antenatal care contacts.
The adult and child lung health section
Recently, this group of Union members collaborated with The Union’s Director of Lung Health to create The Union’s Strategic Plan for Lung Health 2020-2025. Two broad themes emerged as priorities: lung health across the life course; and lung health and well-being after TB.
Linked to the Strategic Plan, the section organised popular member webinars on ‘Lungs past and future: recognising and treating respiratory disease arising in early life’ and ‘Post TB lung disease – current state of the science.’
