Introduction

Operational research is performed to help improve health systems and the quality of healthcare.

Public Health Action (PHA) is a peer-reviewed Open Access journal that communicates and reports new knowledge across all relevant areas of operational research including: infection control, nutrition, TB, HIV,  vaccines, smoking, COVID-19, microbial resistance and disease outbreaks.

Information for Authors

PHA welcomes the submission of articles on operational research, including policy, practice, systems, quality assurance/quality improvement, cost-benefit analysis, legislation and health systems research, equity, ethics and access to services.

The Editors will consider any manuscript reporting original research on health systems, services and capacity building, with a focus on all relevant areas of public health.

The Journal is Open Access – freely available to all to read – and published with a CC-BY 4.0 licence. Authors retain copyright for their articles. To enable Open Access for all our readers, authors of accepted articles are required to pay an article processing charge (see link to Open Access fees).

Public Health Action (PHA) is owned and published by The Union.

  • Creative commons: all Open Access articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons CC-BY Attribution License, which permits unrestricted reuse, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
  • Indexing and abstracting:
  • PHA is indexed by Web of Science (WoS) and article level metrics are available on Dimensions.
  • PHA is fully searchable on PubMed and PubMed Central, Elsevier EMBASE and OpenAlex (https://openalex.org)
  • Freely available as full-text articles (back to Volume 1, Number 1) on PubMed Central.
  • XML deposited to Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) – and metadata incorporated into library discovery portals and search engines including: OCLC; EBSCO products;  Google and Google Scholar.
  • PHA is deposited for preservation on CLOCKSS and LOCKSS
